LOCK STOCK THE TV SERIES CONDENSED

Surfing the net the other day I came across a condensed version of Scarface and it reminded me of a thing I did in 2000 with a single episode of Lock Stock The TV series (an AMAZINGLY poor TV spin off from Guy Ritchie’s ludicrously popular movie). Like the Scarface thing it’s not funny exactly, just kind of depressing in a fun way. There must be hundreds of these things floating around the web. I think I first saw the idea done on a show called Squirt TV that used to run on public access in New York and became so popular it was picked up by MTV until it’s teenage host, Jake Fogelnest was sent slightly nuts by the pressures of making a TV show in his actual bedroom for a broadcaster more or less baffled by his antics. Louis Theroux gave me and Joe a copy of Squirt TV in 1996 as we were making the pilot for The Adam & Joe Show (which shared the home made approach of course) and there was a bit on there where Jake had edited all the swearing from The Commitments into a single clip. It’s one of those things you do when you have a great deal of time to waste that makes less sense when you have children. Only a bit less though…

Squirt TV trivs: Jake Fogelnest and his Dad came to the UK for the Edinburgh TV festival (around 1997 I think) and Joe, me and him were on a panel talking about DIY TV. We told him that we’d stolen the idea for our show from him and he took it pretty well. There’s a clip on the Adam & Joe DVD (in The Story Of Adam & Joe) of a man shouting “Get that fucking thing out of my face! Which one are you? Adam or Joe? Get that fucking thing OUT OF MY FACE!” or something. That’s Jake’s Dad and I think if you freeze frame at the very top of the clip you can see Jake behind him. Holy shit, I need to lie down. I’m getting nerdous exhaustion!
