The BUG shaped part of my life seems to be getting busier, which I’m all up for as it’s still my favourite live assignation. In the last few weeks we had a pair of shows in Norwich then Leicester, all of which seemed to go down pretty well and I had a good time meeting some of the audience after the shows, some of whom gave me some great tips for videos and internet weirdness that we’ll certainly include in forthcoming BUG nights. And only one person gave me a hard time about The Persuasionists!

One of the videos I made for BUG was an analysis of a Joss Stone video that has been doing the rounds online for a while. This is something I thought might be a good strand, not only for the live shows but for a possible TV/internet version of BUG that I’m putting together in pilot form over the next few weeks. I’ve always wanted to do some kind of music show (I wrote about past attempts here) and maybe some form of BUG hybrid is the way to go.

Really hope I’ll see you at one of these shows. I’ve got a couple of new vids to show as well as all the usual weird and wonderful new pop promos, YouTube comments and other bollox, so I’m planning for it to be wicked! Am I still allowed to use the word wicked now I’m over 40?

Here are the 4 pieces I made for 2009 Unwrapped presented by lovely Miranda Hart, a Time Trumpet-ish review of last year that went out on BBC2 on 30th December. Careful to tape up your sides before you do though or they might split with mirth! Seriously. Hospitals have been reporting record numbers of mirth related injuries since my blog posts went up on the BBC site. Oh wait, apparently they’ve been reporting record numbers of injuries from slipping on ice. So tape up your feet AND your sides.

Basically they want someone to appear briefly in the Visit California TV ad, you know the one with Rob Lowe looking soulfully out to sea, David Beckham kicking balls on the beach and Arnold Schwarzenegger having a romantic meal, completely free of guns and explosions, with his lovely wife on a terrace somewhere. I imagine it’s been your dream to appear in one of these ads for almost as long as you can remember. Well now that dream is one step closer to coming true. Even if there’s something wrong with you and you have never dreamt of appearing in a TV ad extolling the virtues of the Golden State, you might be up for the rest of the prize which includes a first class round trip to LA, luxury accommodation, spending money and over the top sounding activities for a week. Christmas Day 2009

The big music news story of 2009 was of course the release of the 7th album by one of Britain’s best loved bands, The Stereophonics. The title of their new album Keep Calm and Carry On is taken from a never used World War 2 poster but they’ve given it contemporary twist by photoshopping themselves into a scenario that sees them eating a café style breakfast on a beach which is the kind of zany and surreal unpredictability you’d expect from the Phonicles.

Anyway, they seem to have gone into a post-prandial trance, which has made them indifferent to the fact they’re being overwhelmed by the incoming tide. Now, I don’t know if you know but the world is currently under threat from climate change which was started by Al Gore a few years back so it’s possible that this image is some kind of comment on the human race’s collective folly in ignoring it (Copenhagen? Come on guys!), or it might just be an amusing pic of a band that ran out of luck while eating too close to the sea one day. Who can tell what they were thinking? Well now you have the opportunity to find out:

Who owned the footage of Lily Allen, Dizzee etc that I used for the Christmas Messages video I posted yesterday and were upset that it had been used without their permission which is why the video has been taken off You Tube. I wish to say that I acted alone in the creation of the Celebrity Messages and no else needs to be executed. Please let me just have Christmas with my family and then you can do what you need to do.
