Podcast 39 features a conversation with film director Garth Jennings and actor/Mighty Boosh member Julian Barratt. It was recorded on walk in October 2016 when Garth and Julian were staying with us in Norfolk.
We talked about Julian’s film ‘Mindhorn’ (which at that point had just been shown to an audience for the first time at the London Film Festival), Garth's film 'Sing' (which had just been completed), dog turds, what it’s like at George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch and we return to a couple of my favourite subjects: double act dynamics and dealing with negative criticism! Yay.
I also related a story I'd heard in Adam Curtis' film Hypernormalisation about the film The Rock having helped persuade Tony Blair to invade Iraq. You can read that story reported in The Guardian HERE.
On the subject of Garth's film Sing - people keep asking me which characters I provided voices for, as Garth was kind enough to give me quite a prominent credit at the end of the film. Truth is, I just did one or two lines for a gorilla called Stan who is part of a heist at the beginning, and a few words for other minor characters here and there - nothing memorable, but I was happy to be a part of the film at all. I'm sure Garth will write me a very big part in the sequel. Garth loves it when I say things like that.
